STEPS TO TAKE:
Step One - Are you eligible for "status"?
NIHB is a program which provides counselling benefits for eligible First Nations and Inuit people who are registered according to the Indian Act. To be eligible, you must be a resident of Canada and one of the following must apply:
- a First Nations individual who is registered according to the Indian Act (commonly referred to as "Indian Status")
- an Inuk recognized by one of the Inuit land claim organizations as outlined in Inuit client eligibility for NIHB
- a child less than 2 years old, whose parent is an NIHB-eligible client
Step Two - Apply for NIHB
In order to access NIHB benefits, you will need an identification number to NIHB. Step One (above) must apply before you continue. This link will provide details on how to acquire your identification number.
Step Three - Identify an NIHB approved service
Once you have your NIHB number, you will be eligible for a range of supports covered through NIHB. I am a service provider for NIHB and can book appointments with you. You may have up to 20 counselling hours covered with me every calendar year through NIHB. However, I am not the only approved service.
