Emotionally focused therapy

"EFT is a structured approach to couples therapy formulated in the 1980’s and has developed alongside the science on adult attachment and bonding to expand our understanding about what is happening in couple relationships and to guide therapists."

Narrative therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a short-term form of behavioral treatment. It helps people problem-solve. CBT also reveals the relationship between beliefs, thoughts, and feelings, and the behaviors that follow."

Here are a few facts about our founder Aimee Poole. It's always nice for potential clients to know a bit about their therapist and founder and why they started their business.

Dear potential and current clients,

If you are just finding this write-up, here is a bit about me. I am the founder of Yellowfinch Counselling & Wellness Inc. I am a mother of a busy 14-year-old boy. I am also a dog lover. I am originally from Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. I love to cook, bike, do yoga, volunteer, and play a variety of sports. You will definitely find me kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding on the water as well.

I am a marriage and family therapist, facilitator, trainer, mindfulness practitioner, lover of life, nature, family, and all the little things that bring us joy if we allow them to on a daily basis.

I am a compassionate individual dedicated to helping others both mentally and spiritually. I walk with my clients on their journey towards improved lives, goals, happiness, fulfillment, love, relationships, and mental health. I love working with individuals around: anxiety, authentic self, self-compassion, self-esteem, life goals, break ups, parenting stress management, depression, grief, and relationships.

I enjoy helping couples and individual clients create and sustain healthy, strong, satisfying relationships and lives. I choose to specialize in areas that have touched my life as well such as ADHD, neurodiversity, grief, anxiety, depression, love, and relationships.

Our central core relationship affects our quality of life, happiness and health, and even our longevity. When I work with couples, I get to see the change and true connection being deepened with most of my couple clients. When I  help a couple as their relationship improves and grows this deepening of connection not only helps the couple but the entire family system (family, friends, children, etc.), having ripple effects in many lives.

I continually strengthen my practice and offerings to my clients by keeping at the forefront of what is: relevant, evidence-based practice, and applying approaches that work. I am constantly learning and taking courses. I  read several books on therapy, life, and relationships a month.

I have a genuine desire to make a difference and help others and sought a purposeful meaningful career.

I walk compassionately with my clients. As someone who is halfway through her life, I have not only education and counselling experience but life experience as well. Some of the topics my clients wrestle with I have as well in my life. I am able to be compassionate and resonate and build a rapport with my clients which is the key ingredient to successful counselling.

I look forward to helping you on your life's journey. There is nothing more rewarding to me than when a client tells me how much I have helped them.

Thank you so much for choosing my business.

I am honored.

Sincerely,

Aimee Poole

YOU DON'T HAVE TO GO THROUGH A HUGE LIFE EVENT OR TRAUMA

TO BENEFIT FROM COUNSELLING. TALKING WITH A PROFESSIONAL CAN GET YOU THROUGH DIFFICULT SITUATIONS IN LIFE AND YOU'RE STRONGER IF YOU DO THAT

the day saying, 'I will try again tomorrow.”

Although we offer both in person and teletherapy. If you want to use teletherapy but are unsure if it is right for you:

We encourage you to read up on the efficacy of teletherapy and how research shows it is just as effective as in person therapy. We switched to a 100% completely remote clinic as we found that 90% of our clients were asking for virtual therapy and coaching. They found it convenient to be at home or at the office and not have to drive into an appointment, find child care or  loose up to 2hrs of their day dealing with traffic and parking.

Our clients consistently relay that our virtual therapy and approach work well for them. They indicate they more comfortable in their own homes, felt freer to talk, be themselves. Our clients also found the resources we give them in between sessions was even more beneficial then in person sessions they had previously experienced where coaches and or counsellors provided them with 0 articles, resources, worksheets given between in person sessions.

We want this to be a positive and productive healing experience for you, so we are here to tailor it to your unique needs including for example asking about how you learn is it through videos  vs articles; or if you need adaptions we will try to accommodate best way we can.

Once our clients try online they really enjoy it, it begins to feel more natural  for them.

96% of our clients sign up for a 2nd session after a first virtual session with us.

We offer virtual: video and phone counselling, support groups and seminars as well as in person.

"
"Studies have broadly shown that teletherapy has similar outcomes in

most cases to in-person therapy. A recent systematic review and meta-

analysis found that telemedicine was comparable to in-person treatment

in efficacy, patient satisfaction and dropout rates."

WHY DID WE PICK YELLOWFINCH AS OUR NAME? WHAT DOES THE YELLOW FINCH (GOLDFINCH)  SYMBOLIZE?

A goldfinch (yellow finch) arrival is said to "remind you to enjoy life and savor each moment for the joy that is in it. Furthermore, it is also a time to celebrate who you are, your accomplishments, or just for the sheer fun of it. The Goldfinch meaning symbolizes that life is for you to live. Therefore, each moment you waste on such negative emotions as fear, hatred, and anger is a waste of time. This spirit animal is all about finding joy in the present moment. Seeing one represents that it is time to express yourself. Thus you need to speak up and speak your mind. Be straightforward, kind, and thoughtful with your words, and all will be resolved. "  As a mindfulness practitioner and true believer in "finding joy in the present moment" the yellow finch couldn't be a better representation of my business and practice in my own life.

"The goldfinches are symbolic of joy, enthusiasm, positivity, and persistence. In Christianity, these birds have a strong symbolism and are considered to be sacred. The spirit of the goldfinches also symbolizes optimism. These birds believe in always looking at the bright side of things. The third message from Goldfinch Spirit Animal is one of joy. There is a sweet cheerfulness in this little Bird and in the creature’s heartening song. Remaining positive and finding simple, sublime happiness in your life cannot be overstressed. Celebrate every sparkle in your journey and stay true to your vision. The third message from Goldfinch Spirit Animal is one of joy.
